While the dogs, cats, and kittens at the West Milford Animal Shelter are waiting for their new forever homes and families, they put their time to good use. Recently all of the dogs available for adoption attended obedience training classes.

All of them passed, and one dog named Red was especially proud of her accomplishment. Red only has sight in one eye and her disability did not hold her back. Red is a very fun and playful dog. She is also very loving and kind. She needs a kindred soul.

Charlotte, a kitten who just came back to the shelter after being cared for in a foster home, behaved well in her foster home and graduated from the school of cute. She is a sweet and lovely little lass. She is one of a litter of four. Her siblings are named Precious, Tom the Cat, and Rocket. They are all available for adoption.

Help them allThe West Milford Animal Shelter Society is a completely volunteer organization and the volunteers care for all the animals at the shelter every day and every night. It does not matter if the day or night is a holiday, or it's pouring rain, or there are 10 inches of snow on the ground and the snow is still coming down.

On Sunday, Sept. 17, the volunteers will be hosting the shelter's annual Walk-a-Dog-athon. This is a fundraiser that is a lot of fun for dogs, their families and friends. Take a walk in beautiful Wawayanda State Park and help the homeless animals. There will be games, contests and the opportunity to win great prizes. The event is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with contests at 1 p.m.

For more details, see the registration form on the shelter website,, or facebook/The West Milford Animal Shelter, or call 973-728-2859.
