Township offers low-cost blood test

The township of West Milford is offering blood tests that screen for a variety of conditions on Sept. 23 from 7:30 to 11 a.m. in the town hall meeting room. One test, SMAC (Sequential Multiple Analysis by Computer), consists of blood chemistry 23, CBC with differential and lipid profile; the fee for that test is $20.

Other tests offered are:

thyroid (TSH) $22

T4 (total thyroxine), $7

T3 (uptake), $7

homocysteine and CRP panel (cardiac inflammatory panel), $32

hemoglobin A1C (blood glucose), $15

PSA (prostate-specific antigen), $25

Vitamin D25, $22.

Residents who wish to participate must register in advance in person, by appointment, Sept. 5 or 19 at the Town Hall Municipal Building Meeting Room from noon to 2 p.m. or in the Town Hall Department of Health nurse’s office from 5 to 7 p.m. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis for as long as time slots are available.

Those planning to partake in the SMAC screening need to fast for 12 hours prior to testing to ensure accurate lab results.

Checks for that test should be payable to the Township of West Milford for SMAC Test. Make a separate check for other testing payable to Med Labs Diagnostics at the time of registration. Fees must be paid in advance and are not refundable.
