Things are happening at the Wallisch Homestead!

Art Shows, yoga classes, West Milford Sustainable Gardens, Star Gazing, POUND fitness classes and now finally building upgrades.

The Friends of Wallisch Homestead is in the process of restoring structures on site. The efforts of their Buildings and Grounds Team, headed by Ron Perez, are kicking into high gear. Upgrading electrical service is underway which will replace the outdated and under capacity service to the three main buildings.

This is the next step toward the adaptive reuse of the buildings to create the Stone Exhibition Barn and the Learning Center.

The main homestead has been scraped and even with just a coat of primer this is the most dramatic visual improvement on the house to date. A new roof for the Learning Center has been completed. The Committee has requested bids for exterior carpentry work on the Stone Exhibition Barn. All these repairs are expected to be complete before Labor Day.

Work will then shift to some interior projects. The focus will be upgrading the buildings egress doors, exit and emergency lighting as well as clearing up some tripping hazards and ADA access improvements.

The Friends of Wallisch Homestead group thanks all that have donated so far, especially the Passaic County Board of Freeholders and West Milford Township for their various grant awards, as well as the community for their grassroots donations towards the stabilization, restoration and improvements to the buildings and site.

Since the roof on the main homestead and barn were replaced, several "friend raising" events have been held to raise awareness of the site. The Friends group will be scheduling additional unique events this season. The community events have been very well received and they envision presentations weekly through the season, next year, when they kick off their "Wednesdays at Wallisch" series. Anyone interested in making educational or fitness related presentations to the community can contact them at Wallischhomestead@gmail.com or through their website wallischhomestead.org.

The Friends of Wallisch Homestead is dedicated to the preservation of the Wallisch Homestead for use by the community for open space, education and recreation. Visit wallischhomestead.org for more information.
