George Gerald Fertig, of West Milford, passed away on Friday, Nov. 17. He was 74.

He was born on May 5, 1943 in Union City, to the late Mary Marjorie (nee Miller) and the late Richard Paul Fertig.

George married Kathleen Lillian (nee Palvis) in 1964 and resided in North Bergen.

The couple later moved to Palisades Park where they raised their family. In 2005, they moved to West Milford.

Formerly of Dew Equipment in North Bergen, George owned and operated GF Industries in Stockholm.

He enjoyed spending time at home and tending to his garden.

George was predeceased by his parents Mary and Richard Fertig, and his siblings Richard and John Fertig.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Lillian; his children Catherine Marie Fertig of Franklin, and George M. Fertig of West Milford; his grandchildren, Danielle and Gillian Durante of Franklin; his sisters Mary Smith (husband, Ed) of West Long Branch, and Grayce Schmidt of Lempster, NH; his sisters-in-law, Cathy Fertig of Hasbrouck Height, Joyce Fertig of Eatontown, and Elaine Palvis of Sparrowbush, NY; as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 21. A prayer service is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Stickle-Soltesz Funeral Home, 187 La Rue Road, Newfoundland, NJ. (GPS use 1 Post Place).

Final disposition will be private.
