— On Feb. 4, members of Boy Scout Troop and Pack 159 and about a dozen adult leaders celebrated Scout Sunday at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, the charter organization for the troop.

All wore their full class “A” uniforms and the scouts served as liturgical readers and altar servers for the mass.

Father Kamil Stachowiak, Parochial Vicar of OLQP, celebrated the mass with Deacon Dave Cedrone, who began Cub Scout Pack 159, along with his two sons, over 30 years ago.

The deacon reminded parishioners that this was also the 30-year anniversary of OLQP celebrating Scout Sunday.

Father Kamil blessed the Scouts and their families. He reminded them that the Scout oath illustrates how they should all live every day by helping others and by being kind.

Seven of the Scouts also received recognition for working on and completing their religious medals.

Every major religion has a religious medals program in Scouting. Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts can each earn two religious medals by completing workbooks and learning about their faith.

The seven Scouts will formally receive their medals in March with Bishop Serratelli at St. John’s Cathedral in Paterson next month.

Father Kamil also performed a blessing of the throats in honor of and celebrating the Feast of St. Blaise, a bishop in Sebaste, Armenia in the 4th century.

St. Blaise was a doctor before becoming a bishop and martyr.

Troop 159 meets at the gym at Our Lady Queen of Peace School on Wednesday nights at 7:30 for anyone interested in joining the troop.
