WEST MILFORD – The Lady Highlanders came away with a decisive home victory over Pompton Lakes on Saturday night, beating the Cardinals 65-33.

“It was a big win for us,” said head coach Ray LaCroix. “Now we advance in the county.”

Freshman point guard Rachel Chandler led the way with a career-high 23 points along with eight assists.

Juniors Kristina Fedor and Ashley Jacobs both scored in the double digits as well, racking up 11 points each.

Combined with her team-leading 10 rebounds, Jacobs had a double-double for the game.

West Milford got off to an early first-quarter lead and never looked back, which was in stark contrast to the team’s previous game against Wayne Hills.

In that Jan. 24 away contest, the Lady Highlanders got behind the Patriots early and were never able to recover.

Sophomore forward Alex Buonanno had 15 points and eight rebounds, while Chandler and Jacobs each scored 14 in the losing effort.

The final score was 58-50.

“We had three girls in double figures for the first time this season and shot very well, but Hills just shot lights out,” coach LaCroix said. “We had our opportunities to win, but I felt our offense carried over to Saturday night.”

The Lady Highlanders (5-10) are scheduled to play Clifton next at home on Jan. 31 in a game that, according to coach LaCroix, could clinch the team a spot in the State Tournament for the seventh consecutive season with a win.
